Reception as Enterprising Creative Contributors

Reception’s Spring Term Project is ‘In Our Town’. We have been exploring the different places that we find in Newport such as our homes, the greengrocers, the bakery and the farm.

Last week, as part of a pupil voice activity the children decided that they would like to learn how to make Welsh cakes as part of our Bakery mini-project.

The children asked the following questions:

  • Can we learn how to make Welsh cakes?
  • We want to make Welsh cakes healthy. How can we do this?
  • Can we make invitations for our parents to come and taste our Welsh cakes?
  • Can we make a recipe book to give to our mummys and daddys?

As a result of this activity, Reception are going to host an Afternoon tea style party and invite their parents in to taste their bakes.

This week, we have been designing our invitations and discussing how to make their Welsh cakes healthier.

Next week the children will be buying the ingredients, weighing the ingredients and following a Welsh cake recipe ready for their parents to visit.

The children have also decided to make a Book Creator recipe book on the iPads to give to their parents so they can learn how to make our Healthy Welsh cakes at home!
