March 2016 Newsletter

Annwyl Rhieni,

Dear Parents,

The year is flying by and we can hardly believe we are at the end of March and heading towards the summer term. The children have continued to work hard and have had a variety of experiences and opportunities to develop their skills within a creative learning environment. Here is an update of recent events in school.

Eisteddfod

On Tuesday 1st March we held our St. David’s Day Eisteddfod. The children came to school in a variety of Welsh costumes and we celebrated with music, drama, poetry recitals and songs. We had a super afternoon. The children sparkled in their performances and the hall looked stunning, decorated with the children’s competition entries. Well done children!

World Book Day

On the 4th March we celebrated World Book Day in school. The children who dressed up as their favourite characters from a book looked absolutely fantastic. We had some amazing characters in school. The books the children made were absolutely brilliant. Prizes were given out in a special celebration assembly. Well done to everyone who took part!

Sport Relief We also had a very energetic time taking part in a school Danceathon for Sport Relief! The children looked fantastic in their funky sports gear and everyone did really well! A BIG THANKYOU to Mrs Parker for organising this event. We will let you know how much we raised as soon as we have the final figure.

PTA – A BIG THANK YOU to the PTA for all their hard work again this term. Their next big event is the forthcoming ‘Ladies Night’ scheduled for Friday 15th April at 7:30pm. This looks to be a really super evening so please come along and support us!  Forthcoming PTA events also include a Car Boot Sale on Sunday 24th April and a Family Hoedown on Friday 20th May.  Please come and support these events; all money raised is used to benefit all the children in school!

SuperStars – SuperStars are in school over the Easter holidays running their Easter holiday camp. Their camps will run from Tuesday 29th March – Friday 1st April week 1 and Monday 4th April – Friday 8th April week 2.  Letters have already been sent out or you can go to their website www.super-stars.org.uk for further information.

Minecraft Club – My Little Pad Limited, the company who run Minecraft club, are offering four holiday club days during the Easter break. They will be in school on Tuesdays 29th March and 5th April and Thursdays 31st March and 7th April. Book on line at www.milittlepad.com

National Tests – The National tests for Years 2 – 6 will take place in school as follows; Wednesday 4th May – Reading Test, Friday 6th May – Numeracy Procedural Test, Monday 9th May – Numeracy Reasoning Test. The tests are constructed so that our younger learners will be able to sit them in ‘chunks’. They will be delivered on a whole class or group basis. The reading test will consist of a number of passages followed by short, closed response and multiple choice type questions. There are two numeracy tests; a procedural test for knowledge and understanding and a reasoning test for application of skills and problem solving. The tests will be marked in school and learners’ raw scores will be converted to standardised score. The standardised score will show how your child’s performance in the test compared to other children of the same age who have sat the test in Wales. Test results and comparative data will be sent out at the end of the year. It is vital that all children are in school on the above dates to sit these tests.

Consultations – Parental consultations will take place the first week back after the Easter holidays on Tuesday 12th April, Wednesday 13th April and Thursday 14th April. If you have not yet made an appointment with your child’s teacher it really is vital that you contact school to arrange a convenient time.

Parent Governor – Congratulations to Mrs Hamnett on her appointment as our new parent governor. Thank you to the other candidates for putting themselves forward.

Funky Hat Parade – We’ve certainly seen some weird and wonderfully funky hats today in our Funky Hat Parade! Well done to all the children who took part! The children have also had fun at an Easter disco this afternoon and all the children have been given an Easter Egg. Happy Easter everyone!

Website – Don’t forget to keep up to date with the latest news and developments on the school website! You can follow us at @GlasllwchP or by subscribing to our latest news through our school website.

Thank you for all your support again this term. We value the partnership we have between home and school. It is vital if children are to flourish and to reach their full potential. We really are very proud of our school and of all our children.

Have a very happy Easter.

Yours sincerely,

C. M. Jackson and Staff.
