We have reached the end of another very busy and productive term in school. The children have worked hard and have experienced and enjoyed a range of activities. They have benefited enormously from these experiences and have developed new skills and grown in confidence and independence.
The children excelled in their Christmas concerts. We are so proud of them! Well done! A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr Cornelius for helping us with the music and to all the staff for their hard work!
Nursery performing ‘The Magical Christmas Tree’.
Foundation Phase performing ‘The Little Angel’.
KS2 performing ‘Robin Hood’.
Christmas Fayre A BIG thank you to the P.T.A. committee for organising and running the Christmas Fayre last Friday. Once again it was a huge success! We will let you know how much was raised at the beginning of next term. Thank you to everyone for your support!
Nursery visit to Father Christmas The Nursery children had an exciting day out visiting Father Christmas at Fourteen Locks Canal Centre last week. It was a super trip and both parents and children had a lovely time!
Christmas Pantomime The children and staff had a great time watching the production of ‘Cinderella’ at The Riverfront Theatre on Monday. ‘Oh yes we did!’ Thank you to all our parent helpers.
Christmas Parties The children thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas parties on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Father Christmas visited Foundation Phase and both Foundation Phase and KS2 received a Christmas present.
Applications for Reception and Nursery 2017 The closing date for applications for Reception 2017 is 13th January 2017. Applications for nursery provision in Newport will open 9th January 2017. Go to www.newport.gov.uk/schooladmissions and follow the instructions.
Sport Congratulations to our school rugby team. They won the Newport Schools Christmas Tournament at the end of November, finishing the day unbeaten. Well done boys!
Well done to Year 3 for having the highest attendance this term. We achieved 96.93% whole school attendance. Our target for the year is 96.5% so we are on track to achieve it. Well done everyone!
Healthy Living The week we return to school after the holidays is our designated Healthy Living Week! I’m sure after the Christmas festivities we’ll all be looking to eat healthily and take more exercise! During our first week back, as a whole school we will be focusing on fitness and what constitutes a healthy, balanced diet.
Governors Annual Report to Parents A summary report has been sent out today via parentmail. If you require a paper copy please contact the school office. Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the school website. As soon as the problem has been rectified the full report will be available under ‘Online Office’.
Snow We have been fortunate this term to have escaped any snow. Hopefully this will continue next term but in the event of heavy snowfall the following will apply:
- A risk assessment will be carried out by the Head Teacher. This will involve assessing the school site for health and safety risks to both children and staff
- If a decision to close school to children is made, a notice will be put on the school website by 8am
- The Local Authority will also be contacted and school will be added to the Newport City Council website for school closures
- If you are unsure about whether we are open or closed please telephone the school
NB: Every attempt will be made to keep school open but obviously the health and safety of the children and staff must come first.
Thank you for all your support again this term. The partnership between home and school is vital if the children are to flourish, to reach their full potential and if we are to continue to strive towards our vision to be a ‘Centre of Excellence’.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i bawb.
